Kicker Daniele Casini wins Serie B title with 1-1 draw against Genoa

Daniella Casini’s first season as Genoa’s captain saw him win the Serie B and Coppa Italia after a 1-0 win against Genova.

Casini, who joined the Genoa outfit from Juventus, had the best of the first half, opening the scoring after the break before the visitors’ defence was in disarray.

Genoa equalised in the 88th minute and the match ended with Casini leading the celebrations, with the Italian’s side taking all three points in the final game of the season.

The 23-year-old striker has been instrumental in Genoa having secured a top-four place this term and has now won his first Serie B trophy, the club’s first and only since 2007.

Casinis had previously won the Coppa italiana and Colegio delle Libertadores in 2015, and has scored eight goals in 16 Serie B matches this term.

Genoa’s coach Massimiliano Allegri also named his team for the next stage of the competition, with Andrea Mancini as the first-choice keeper and Andrea Rizzoli as the second-choice striker.

The two sides face each other in the first leg of the Coppina italiane final on Wednesday (local time).
